Mileage Reporting 40th week of 2014

5 miles Tuesday.
6 miles today at 5 :00am 79 deg. 79%rh slim wildlife (one large toad)
still fun running !!

That might be the most important lesson of barefoot! It took me a couple years barefoot to get to marathon, and I had been running a few years shod prior to that. And I've only done marathon distance 1 time and I wasnt that well prepared! Not sure if i'm any better of this year either.

thanks for the feedback. what about your feet at the end of the race ?
it's 18 months for me now, it looks like I'm gonna need much more than 2 years for the marathon.
already ran 3 half-marathon, but to run twice the distance would be masochism

5 miles yesterday, good vibes

Why not?

Thursday morning - 5 barefoot miles, nice and easy
Thursday evening - 5 shod trail miles with a big hill

Friday - 4 barefoot miles, mid 30's F. Cold for the first mile, then the feet were fine.
Because I am a lazy butt, that's why and besides the weather is turning cold and I DON'T run outside on cold weather-so there!:coldfeet:

Rick
Do you have some sort of schedule you go by?

No, I am all over the place. I do try to have a lighter week if I am coming off of a high mileage week. I try to run, hike, walk whenever I can, including a lot of miles for work. Kids in lessons, I try to run. Wife shopping, I try to run. Trip into town to get farm supplies, I stop at a trail and do an out and back.

I ran three half marathons before I committed to the full marathon. You might not be as far behind as you think. I'd guess when I hit the half-marathon distance barefoot that my feet were up to any pavement distance... what I mean is my feet where always very tender building up the mileage up through about 10 miles or so. Each time I'd go out and do a mile more than I had before I could tell my soles were burning. But once I got to running a half marathon ok I really never experienced and foot discomfort due to mileage again. Yeah if I went out and did a 18+ mile long run my soles might be a little sensitive after but no big deal. Even after my first marathon last October my feet were fine, a little sore but way way better shape than the rest of my lower half. But everyone is a bit unique in there limitations. My problem is typically my calves (somewhat chronic pain there), and then with the longer distanced I get strained feelings in my knees and elsewhere in my legs in general. I have no problems with foot, nor energy, guess you could say fatigue tends to get me on the long runs. keep in mind I almost exclusively run on nice paved bike paths. On chip seal or rough roads or trails, I might run into foot problems more. Half marathon distance is great though IMO. Keeps you in fine shape and less chance of pushing yourself to the point of injury. Its pretty much my favorite distance.

Thanks for the comment Tristan, here and on the other mileage thread. Wow, that's a lot of cross training. Consider running with a hand held instead of a pack. You wouldn't even notice a handheld.

I do both. Not sure why you mentioned this though, I don't have any issues with the pack? I actually prefer it myself..
I use the pack to hold stuff - besides being able to hold more water (important just for the long runs) but also I bring a baggie of dates, and usually my phone. Huaraches too if I'm worried about backup, and clip my visor onto the pack if it might rain. Also no sloshing noise from the pack. If its a short run and I only need 16oz I go hand held. But then I often end up holding my phone in the other hand.

So yesterday I did get my 3rd day of running in, just a smidge over 4 miles if memory serves. And today is a day off, desperately needed, from all hard work! Worked out perfectly too, storming out there today.

Spent from when I dropped my son off from school yesterday until I picked him up in the afternoon felling, bucking, loading, hauling, and unloading wood. Well I did the unloading after school.

Got the rest of the big rounds in the trailer as well as some from my first day or two I had laying there still. Then fell 3 more dead ash trees, bucked 2 of them to stove length rounds and loaded about half of them. The third tree I barely started on bucking - my chain was getting a bit loose but my tool was way up by the house where I first parked so I ignored it. Eventually when I pinched the bar a bit it threw the chain off so I decided to stop there. Reminds me I got to go out and fix that still, and file the teeth a bit.

I still feel it... everywhere... but not hugely sore... enough to feel though. Lower back is the worst. Then just general tiredness and light soreness from the hips down plus slightly strained biceps.

ballpark summary of my week so far:

sunday: lolligagging around with the kids, they bike, I run, we stop around town, maybe 6.5 total
monday: 4ish in the morning
tuesday: 4ish in the morning
wednesday: 4ish in the morning
thursday: 2ish in the morning
friday: 4ish in the morning.

a few half hearted weight sessions thrown in, and it coulda been worse.

0km so far this week, hoping to turn it into 21 tomorrow morning.

My back of heel niggle has eased to a dull ache, so I think I'm going to try to manage a slow half. I've been booked in for the Stawell Half Marathon for a month or two and it would be a shame to miss it. I tested it out at basketball on Wednesday night and found that it ached, but didn't get any worse as the game went on. I'm hoping the same will hold for the morning once it warms up. Fingers crossed

5k parkrun :-D

I missed my 9/10 deg C slot from 11am to 12, as the car wouldn't start! Got it working again but it's 11 deg C now and the wife wants to go shopping :(

Was that 5K in bare feet Hula? What was the temperature in Brissle at 9am?
