why you people don't go to a place where going barefoot is normal?

Some schools in the U.S. allow bare feet in class. Most of the dress codes requiring footwear were written in the late 60's and early 70's, but eventually were left out in later revisions when nobody was bothering to try going to school barefoot any more.
Since the dress code rules are rather lengthy but don't mention bare feet, it ends up being at the discretion of the principal if a teacher or security guard brings it up.
My wife teaches barefoot in a public school, her students tend to kick off their shoes once they see her.
She's been transferred to five different schools in the past seven years, and has gotten away with it at each one.
And yes, she's the only barefoot teacher in public school as far as I can tell in the entire state, so it's just an individual thing that sometimes can be accomplished.

Hello again, "Longboard!"

As we talked about on the other board, I often teach barefoot too & you bet that kids quickly follow suit. It's not hard persuading children to go barefoot. We do need shoes on outside the classroom though. My rank in the herd isn't high enough just yet to push my luck that much.

So for your wife it may not be a barefoot-friendly school per se so much as just being lucky?

Combination of luck, chutzpa, and confidence.
So wait a minute....you've been a member here since November '13 and only posted for the first time today?
Welcome!

Welcome!

I actually found the board some time ago, but to be honest I had sort of forgotten about it until you posted those links. The bulk of my activity recently has been swimming & yoga, with a lot of the former. My boyfriend jokes that I'm channeling Ariel, but he enjoys seeing me in a swimsuit so much!

why don't you people go and live to a place where going barefoot is very common?
i've heard thailand and new zealand are great barefoot countries, specially NZ

Moving to a different country is no small thing. Yes it would be nice to be in a place where barefoot is accepted as normal but this is a very minor thing overall in my life. I certainly wouldn't move away from friends and family and all the places I love to go just to be in a slightly more barefoot friendly society! What of us with big families... Some of our wives and children don't even believe in barefoot being better (mine don't) and think we are crazy so its not like they would even have any interest in moving to a different country for that reason. So for many of us this is just not practical.

yep so true, seems people with family is extremely difficult to live in a barefoot friendly country

I haven't done much yoga, but maybe I should! I was going to cancel my massage membership to save money, but then realized how sore my neck and shoulders were. Eveything else is pretty good now, but neck and shoulders, ouch!

How often were you getting massages?

For me they're an occasional treat, & they're the relaxation-type massages. The kind where you feel like you're going to melt, not like Mike Tyson is pounding you within an inch of your life.

Last time was a couple months ago. I received a spa gift certificate & had a day of it. Got a steam bath, a body scrub, a seaweed body wrap, a facial, a massage, & a manicure/pedicure. Yes I felt like I was in Heaven!

And it looks to me like the WI President has been MIA for a year and a half.
If you took a day a week off the pool and the yoga mat and organized a run you TOO might be able to move up in the ranks!

I wasn't getting massages very often at all. I pay a monthly membership fee for a 1 hr massage, but had several hours stored up, as I hadn't gone in several months.

I prefer the deep tissue massage, as I find the myofascial work to be beneficial. The first time, I was really sore all over. This time, only my neck and shoulders were sore. I ordered a shoulder massager from Amazon, so we'll see if that does the trick. I hope to be massage-free one day, so I can avoid the membership fee!
