Mileage reporting 37th week of 2014

Havent chimed in here in a while, but its been a slow nightshift here. Lets see, just 2 runs this week i guess, both 8.5 miles and surprisingly finished them both within 30 seconds of each other (not trying to either, and not looking at gps at all). I worked long days mon-wed so didnt do any runs then. Might get a long run in Monday or Tuesday so looks like just 17 mi this week.

Looks like my plans have changed, no vacation nor race the end of the month. Which is good and bad. I have signed up for a marathon in October, so now my calendar is blank I might have a chance of getting some better training in for the next month and be OK for it. But not great, my mileage has kind of sucked this year with my work schedule and calf pains. Was thinking of backing out but with some luck and lots of effort maybe I can pull it off still.

Wow can't beleive of the reports of winter conditions already! Say it isnt so! I probably should try to get some morning runs in prior to the marathon. Last year it was quite a shock to the system at the race... I hadnt run much below 60º and bright sun and all the sudden I'm waiting for my longest race ever before dawn and my feet are going numb in the 30's. I hope to ease into that a bit better this year!

Saturday - 28 miles sandals. I had registered for my local half marathon months ago on a half price promotion so it would not have been a big deal to skip this race. Work schedule cleared that morning so I was good to go. With a light mileage week because of work I decided to turn the half into a long run by running up the course with a few extra miles from where I was staying at my brother's home. Timing was the biggest concern with doing this. The race was up a canyon and the start is usually cold so I didn't want to start too early and have to wait around and obviously I didn't want to be late. 2500 vertical and a strong canyon headwind slowed me down some and I only arrived with about 10 minutes to spare. That ended up being perfect. The plan was to just take the race easy, but I have no self control in races and the with the steep downhill I had to let it fly, it was just too much work to try to hold back. The race was fun and time went by fast, I have forgotten how fun races are (my last was in January). Did a little celebration when I hit the 26.2 mark with an unofficial pr of 4:20. Slowed down a little after that and finished the race in 1:46 (my 3rd fastest half).

Aftermath - arrived home and spent 6 hours in a hay cutting machine, not the best thing to do. Hurting a little, but no permanent damage.

Sweet 10 mile run at 5:45am 63 deg. f. 83 % rh...
I saw a few rabbits and 1 group of parrots sitting on power wires.
I witnessed 2 toilet paper jobs on front lawns (trees). I do not know if this is a local thing or it happen in other parts of the world?
Last run of the week for me. Total miles 28

You might want to look into this guy: http://bretcontreras.com. He claims to have been successfully helping women with their bottoms for quite some time. He's particularly keen on hip thrusts. Or at least on selling his hip thrust apparatus: http://www.thehipthruster.com/

Personally, I've come to the conclusion that most exercises are nonsense, just stick with the basics at high intensities--squats, deadlifts, bench press, overhead press, rows, and pullups/pulldowns. My wife has visually confirmed the effectiveness of this approach.

For squats, make sure you do them full/deep, ass-to-grass style:

Your glutes will thank you later.

Deadlifts are also good for glutes, but no doubt, squats are king, er, I mean queen!

How's St. Cloud treating you by the way?

Bret Contreras: what a helper.

I do the squats ass to grass when I'm not carrying much weight. A little nervous when I'm at a weight where 10 reps or fewer is a lot.

Tried dancing last night. Had fun, but had to be careful of the tight leg. I really didn't think this was going to be long term! Dear hubby says just take it easy, do some biking and swimming and I'll probably still be okay for race, but it sure would be nice to have not done this. Feeling cursed.

Also, went on about a 10 mile bike ride midday today, on the mountain bike, around the country roads with quite a few hills. That didn't seem to bother the leg at all, which is good. And I can walk. Trying to keep perspective.

Hello all...long time no see!

I started a new job and had no time to work, run, and post. ;-)

Running got cut back too....the bruised heel still isn't quite healed....haha...funny turn of phrase there.

I ran about 5k every morning, but very few longer runs in the last week and half or so.

Until today...I ran for four hours in the sweltering heat...was rough, at my weight its hard to consume enough fluids to stay hydrated.

Was close to 100 degrees Fahrenheit for most of the run.

Here is an amazing fact...i drank 6 liters of water, and still came home 9 lbs lighter than when I left...crazy.

There were a few stretches where I actually felt close to death lol

Good times though.

I had a lazy running week at only 30.5 miles but, last week was a record weeek for me for this year at 54.1 miles.
I am just right behind DNEchris:p(I wish).

4 miles walking today. With pushchair! The shin is complaining a lot now :-\
And how in the world did you manage to messed up your shin?

Congrats! I thought you said that you were getting slow-LIAR!!
Nice Job!

Alternating running and swimming every other morning has been going well. Pool is usually nice and not too crowded. Got there a bit late on Sunday. Was going well until about 20min later, when I see some schmuck standing in the middle of my lane. I stop and stand immediately.

It's some kid, probably a high schooler. I saw him playing around, as kids would do in a community or home pool, doing flips and stuff. He actually crosses in and out of all 3 swim lanes. I suggest that he get out of the swimming lanes and join the 2 ladies in the far lane, who are doing water exercises. He responds cluelessly, "I'm okay!"

I tell him to watch out, as he crosses into another swim lane with someone coming behind him, avoiding a collision. Obviously, the poor kid can't buy a clue, so I tell him to just stay out of my lane.

After, I'm done, I see him in the next lane over along with a physically disabled lady (She's pretty amazing, as she swims about an hour daily despite her obvious disabilities). I'm bit worried about him running into the lady, and tell him that my now vacant lane is all his.

After showering, on the way out, I glance through the glass at the pool. I see some other schmuck swimming in the same lane with him. I think to myself, how's the kid going to learn proper pool etiquette, when other swimmers don't model good behavior themselves?

*sigh*

I'm going to get there early next weekend! :D
