Going to run my first race in years today . . .

. . . and hopefully I don't weenie out and wear shoes (5 Finger Komodo sports). It's a local 5k that is in honor of 9/11/the military and the race is the first event in the opening ceremonies leading up to the unveiling of the traveling war memorial wall that is making a stop here in southern Illinois. The only threat I feel as far as going barefoot is my own internal struggle to match my old 5k times. I think a small portion of the coarse is on gravel, which, if barefoot, will effect my time.

Carry your VFFs, then put them on when you really have to. You've been running barefoot for a while now, so you should be pretty conditioned by now, right? And forget about trying to beat your old 5K times. Concentrate on getting through this race barefoot, then later, you can work on building your speed back up. It will go easier too, because we run faster without all that weight from the shoes...but you got to get to that point. Good luck.
