Is CrossFit Dangerous?

Hey, that's cool, Julie Partridge of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. That's where I live. We have a big cross fit fan base here. Lots of people I work with do it. It makes me nervous for all of the reasons mentioned in this article.

As the author states in one of the last paragraphs, "it may simply be that as more people are doing CrossFit, more people are being injured."
Every physical activity has inherent risks. And having no physical activity at all is perhaps more dangerous than anything else.
What surprises me more is that while the injury rate for CrossFit is estimated around 3 per thousand hours and ranging from 1.4 to 5.5 for triathlon, it goes as high as 2.5 to 12.1 for running.

I just think a lot of crossfit's ideas makes people doing it very much at risk of injury, mostly in the sense that you are supposed to execute exercises as fast as possible. This often encourages a situation where form takes a back seat. You are more likely to cause damage doing something fast than taking the time to do it properly. Finding a good crossfit coach can also be another challenge. A coach that emphasizes good form before results.

As you can see, I don't like crossfit and I realise I'm totally biased in this. It has a high injury risk even if you do it barefoot. I'd rather do strength training without worrying about the speed.
