tarahumara shoes

Last I heard from one of the minshoe store owners was that the Oso was the thickest, unless that's changed since.

TJ, the Oso’s are not the thickest, those are the most inflexible and least moldable, the Mono's are the thickest and at the same time one of the most moldable and soft choices, if you want them for everyday wear on the city and soft trails the mono’s may fit you, but on the other hand they will wear out more quickly.

Now, if any of you is looking for the real Tarahumara Huaraches I may be able to get some, I calculate they'll cost around 40-45 usd + shipping and taxes into the US.

To build a pair it takes a month aproximately because they are made on a remote town in Chihuahua and the comunications are by phone or letters (at least that's what I was told).

I foresee you getting a rush of enquiries for these Yuca

How ironic this relates to this post but just today i was talking to one of our factory workers, who grew up in Mexico and when he was a kid his mom used to buy and make the tarahumara sandals that were made out of tires. This guy is a runner but just starting running a few years ago. He says he still has his original sandals when he was a kid. He just read "Born to Run" a few years ago and found it fascinating how Americans are so into these sandals now. He said growing up he hated the sandals, as most kids did because it was a sign of poverty. And by the way he said many people of the tarahumara tribe wore regular sneakers and still do. But as we know Mr. McDougall did stretch the truth a bit to make the book super interesting.

Do you know how much it would cost to ship them to Georgia, USA?

Just got this from BFT:

The "original" LUNA weighs in at 14 ounces and is about 14mm. I think she will need to try the LUNA Camino Mono now. See here:

http://www.lunasandals.com/collections/lunas/products/luna-camino

It is the Mono footbed with a thick piece of leather on the top.

Future we will introduce some LUNA "Gordo" models that will be a bit thicker.

Thanks for talking to The Monkey for me, Chris. That's quite a lot of money, $115. If they work for me, they would be well worth it. The closest minshoe store to me is about an hour away. I will have to make a trip over there to try them out, but I will call first. Thanks again!

If I use the regular post mail I'm guessing around 25 usd and you should receive it in about 2-3 weeks (is very slow), I've never paid taxes by this way. If I use UPS perhaps around 45 usd and maybe (I could declare them as a gift or as used goods and probably won't charge you anything) you'll have to pay some taxes, you should get them in 3-4 days.

Thank you. My hubby says the tires will be about 15mm. If the Lunas are 14mm, I will drive to the closest minshoe store and try them on. If they don't work for me, Yuca, I will contact you about some authentic tire huaraches. Thank you!

I had bought VIBRAM 127 Athletic Rubber Full Sole from Cobbler Supplies for $8/pair and around $10 with shipping. The soles are 4mm thick at thickest point. I get lots of those draw string bags from marathons and I took out the string - 2 pieces per bag. It was the perfect length for me to do the simple lacing and the kind of lace that Stephen at Xero shoes recommends. I used zero shoes tutorials to make them. Ten US Dollars to make a pair of running sandals that should last lots of kms, but I just use them as back ups if I get in over my head (or over my feet) with too rough of terrain on a workout.

I attached my initial sloppy cutout from the soles that need just minor cutting to work as a sandal and not a shoe.

Hey, Canary, I borrowed a tagline from your signature. Thanks!
