Labor Day

Actually, I want to point out that the reason we have Labor Day is to celebrate the American labor movement. It's a day dedicated to the social and economic achievements of workers. Laws that forbid child labor, while important in their own right, are unrelated to Labor Day.

I always remember Labor Day coming about from the protests and riots, and subsequent beatings by the police and work foremen, that took place due to extensive work hours and safety conditions. At least that's the way we learned about it in school.
 
Those events happened, yes. Child labor laws are not a direct response to them though. Child labor laws are in place so that children have an opportunity to receive an education.

Also, I'm not surprised to hear of schools which choose learning resources that don't acknowledge the labor movement. The ones in Virginia that I attended were just like that.
