Mileage Reporting 35th Week 2014

done !
101 km on asphalt in seven days for the first time of my life

I cant believe it, things changed so suddenly, 4 months ago 60 km were possible but not comfortable.
this time it was comfortable, for feet and legs too.
boring for the mind, true, I wont do this every week (I usually run less than 80k /week, many of them during the week-end on easy trails),
but now I know 9 asphalt miles are sustainable, its a good thing

now, lets do something else during my free time, like spending time with people :)
and lets play the same game in 6 months

thank you BRS, its good to share these little things with you

Well its been a while since I have posted here. Actually I have not done much barefoot running at all this summer do to my left ankle bothering me after my last race which had gotten slammed in my work truck door twice this spring on a couple of windy days.

Gave my ankle most of the summer to heel so did not do much running for over a month or so. Then decided to run some in my old boat anchors. Was able to run in them without much trouble. Think it was due to the limited movement of the ankle needed to run in shoes. Started out slow and am now only back up to 3 to 4 miles but the running actually seemed to help limber up the ankle some.

Been doing some barefoot walking cuz its hard to resist being barefoot. Today I actually ran 5k on the local trail barefoot with no problems and plan to keep up this 3 to 4 mile distance and build on this sloooowly. Was so nice to do a barefoot run today! Really don't care for running much if it has to be done while wearing shoes as its hard to keep your feet still (numb) in the shoes while running. My feet in shoes have nowhere near the range of motion as when running barefoot.

Had a go at my 5K PB from April this morning (33:34.) Went to a local nature reserve near Newport, famed for it's flatness ;) Didn't manage it. Still 30 seconds out. Was pleased that I'm getting close though, having had 6 weeks out with the dratted hernia. I kind of think I need help from some kind of sports therapist with a clever machine. I think I'm holding myself back when I could push harder. It would be interesting to know what my heart is actually doing when my head tells me I need to stop and walk for a while :(

That's why they invented Heart Rate Monitors! (Really useful tools).

I need something a little cleverer than those Chris. I have a HR monitor. It rarely goes past 110 BPM. (I have a heart condition and a CRT pacemaker.)

8.5km on the beach this morning.

Tried to hold myself back and not go too far, but I ran at the same pace I always do and almost started thinking of pushing it a bit further when I reached my planned turning point. Sanity prevailed.

The rest of the day was great, took my daughter for a bit of shell collecting, then surfed for half an hour and caught a few waves, and then finished off with about a km or so of broomstick hobby-horsing around my loungeroom and kitchen. Does that count for toes on roads?

excellent little 10 mile run at 6:00 am.

I saw a few bats, a couple ducks flying, some rabbits, and a extra large flock of parrots flying in formation and screeching.
really had a great outing.
Last day for KT tape and band aid on the ball of my left foot!

I think it should absolutely count maybe even double:wacky:

Wednesday - 8 miles barefoot, 20 minute swim
Thursday - 45 minutes on spin bike
Friday - 11 miles, barefoot, I think. Things are getting to be kind of a blur for me. About an hour of vigorous weeding.
Saturday - 5 miles, about 1.5 barefoot, then the rest in Luna's

That made 48 miles for the week, another new personal record for me for a week and for a month. Makes it kind of interesting when the hot-shot cross country kids at various social functions are giving their parents a hard time about their training needs and I speak up ... not unkindly, but, hey, if I ran 24 miles on Monday, I think it's reasonable to say something and put things in perspective and give their parents some support. :)

Sunday - super rest day

Been running by FEEEEL heh heh heh. It's been great! 4 days of egg laying and then I start my "real" training plan. Just kidding! Well, sort-of. I will ACTUALLY be able to run more than 25 minutes at a time because the heat will actually be DOWN TO 75 degrees -during the DAY! Last night I was able to run, I went at night (my "Saturday" night ritual) and if I had not been so beat, I probably could have easily ran an hour.

So, this month will be a lot longer runs, super excited about that. And...starting next month I will begin my training plan explicitly for females, that instructs them of the best food and exercise routines/types -which are entirely different EACH WEEK- according to each phase in their cycle. This is the key to adequately training for any unusual physical feat, when you are a chick. I have to spend THIS month preparing for that - like maybe, reading the book I am supposed to read, from my ND, and...maybe actually DOING the daily required measurements of my hormones (there are two to three types of measurements). :)

Come October, I will be ready to spend one year in intense training for my ultra-marathon the following October! Whoot! And YES, I will be signing up for two within two weeks - though only completing one. I am WAY smarter than my own body and it will NOT outwit me!!! :)

Meanwhile, I have decided on two major changes to my running regimen. I have decided I will be doing DAILY 1-3 mile pavement runs (per feel) to keep my hips in alignment. The running techniques I use while running on pavement are DISTINCTLY different than the running techniques I use on non-pavement. I will be completing two non-pavement runs on the "trail" by my house each week, starting at a minimum of 3 miles, upward of however long I feel like I can run - this "trail" is really just dirt and gravel and without any hills at all, really. Once a week I will be going to Wildwood where I will run a minimum of 5 miles, upward of however long I feel like it.

I AM SUPER PSYCHED!!!

24 miles in my Lunas, partly because hubby was along riding the bike, so we were exploring some, partly because that one spot it still too tender for that much mileage. Was still keeping around a 10:45 pace at mile 22, but then my watch battery ran out. I am probably unreasonably pleased with my accomplishment and will be unbearable for the foreseeable future.;)

Haha...thats awesome!

Not a thing in 2 whole days!! working a new job, go figure, takes extra work.
Also got a junior high aged child whose open house ate up all afternoon/evening.
The weather is so beautiful though I'm goign to scream if I can't get out tonight!!!
In fact, I will scream right now just in case.
AAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At least so far it's fun.....

Glad you all are getting out there. Do a lap around the area on my behalf.

I feel your pain...I was able to get out there for a 5k morning run everyday this week, but was itching for a 'long' run.

Went on a 10 miler tonight that started off really well, but then a rare moment of intestinal distress made the last 5 miles REALLY miserable, where I did my best 'bear in the woods' imitation...like 5 freaking times! LOL

I wanna try to run 26 miles tomorrow, so I hope this clears up.

My priorities with running have changed a lot...For the first time in my life I really don't care about times and pace and all that...Just the joy of running...I like to run for the shear joy of running until I am about spent, then push my body past it's previous limit....it might be slow, but gosh I love it.

I think I'm gunna skip doing a marathon 'event', and just go straight to the ultra...there is a 50 mile race on Catalina Island in January, I think I can do it.

Haha...does it have a dial, so you can turn it up?

Like a bionic heart?

I wish :) I did get my cardiologist to change the settings last year, so that my heart rate is allowed to increase faster. I'll be asking him again next time what else he can turn up ;)

friday night: night run! exploring the neighborhood, dunno pace or distance. out a little over an hour.

saturday: 13 miles kayaking on the mississippi with my two kids. My 9 yr old whined the whole way (yes, that's almost 4 hours of whining), first because the current made him anxious, then because he was tired. however, the next day we were at a park in the evening and he saw kayaks out for rent, started running for it immediately, hollering "LET'S DO THIS THING" so apparently he is not as horribly traumatized as he originally professed.

Ok, I'm settled in (mostly) in Minnesota, and I promise to try to post more regularly again.

Anyhow, observation: No one wants to return my "goodmorning" around here. Is it MN? Is it me barefoot? I mean, they not only don't say goodmorning, they look away nervously when I say it. Do I look scary? What?
Glad to hear you're getting settled in. Yes, Minnesotans can be a bit shy sometimes. I've heard from several transplants that it's not easy to make friends here. The barefoot thing probably doesn't help. We're probably a little more open here in the Twin Cities. You coming down anytime soon?

Funny to think of you running along the same river now.
