Wow, haven't started a mileage thread for a while.

Sunday around noon
3.5 miles, shorter Mississippi River bridge circuit--Marshall-Franklin Bridges. Very humid but the second half felt better than the first. This is a great distance for me. I can push the pace just slightly the whole way. Not a true tempo run, but maybe it could develop into one fairly soon, by mid fall?

At the beginning, as I was putting on some tunes, a guy called out to me from a park bench under some shade, "you run barefoot?"

I thought the way he stated the question, that he had read up on it some. Instead, after 10 minutes' conversation discussing his hip injury from serving in Iraq, his upcoming hip surgery, how he should get out of high-heeled tennis shoes, how his weighted 60-lb ruck sack was bad for his back and that he should consider getting one with a belt or a weighted vest, how the bottoms of my feet are just gently callused, how far I've run, evolution, the elastic recoil of the arches and calves, how the functional load of the feet and lower leg is shifted to the knees and hips which they weren't designed to handle, and so on and so forth--the whole spiel, he remained convinced I was crazy, and left reiterating the same advice he had countered with at many points in the conversation, "you better soak your feet."

The funny thing is, he looked Native American. I didn't ask, and didn't want to presume anything, but I couldn't help but note the irony that so many people of European descent look to native peoples to get back to a more natural way of doing things, and here my naturalistic stance was falling on deaf ears. He simply refused to believe that going barefoot once in a while might help him a bit with his hip issues.

Monday am
One-mile run-commute.

I gotta get back to doing these run-commutes on a regular basis. After laying off them for many months, I've come to realize their value as recovery runs. I think. Will walk home later today with Sid's weighted vest.

24 miles in my Lunas, partly because hubby was along riding the bike, so we were exploring some, partly because that one spot it still too tender for that much mileage. Was still keeping around a 10:45 pace at mile 22, but then my watch battery ran out. I am probably unreasonably pleased with my accomplishment and will be unbearable for the foreseeable future.;)

5 mile run at 5:00 am. 82 deg. f., 66 % rh...
1 band aid and 1 rap of KT tape on the ball of my left foot.

Ok, I'm settled in (mostly) in Minnesota, and I promise to try to post more regularly again.

Sunday: did stuff, I think a short bf run and an afternoon swim
Monday: short bf run, afternoon non intense weight session
Tuesday: short run in my SANDALS (yeah cuz I found them, in the packing, yeah baby we're back), good weight session.

I miss my sandals because the only place around here that's bf nice for me is a maybe 0.65-0.7 sidewalk loop. The pavement here is rough on my feet, and frankly, the bf on sidewalk feels great but my thin skin still gets goofy with too many days in a row (I know, the skin is supposed to build up, tell my skin, it's not cooperating).
So there. My sandals let me explore a bit more this morning. It was nice. Yes, I did miss being bf, but it's a trade off.

Anyhow, observation: No one wants to return my "goodmorning" around here. Is it MN? Is it me barefoot? I mean, they not only don't say goodmorning, they look away nervously when I say it. Do I look scary? What?

Second observation: gorgeous weather so far. My old michigan friends are dealing with heat and humidity. I'm a happy camper in the 70s cool and dry in the morning. This will last forever, right?????

3.10 km run barefoot on pavement on monday. I have to agree with scedastic : some people just stare at me more strangely if I say hello. As if somehow the idea of a TALKING barefoot runner was even more horrifying !:vampire:

I'm finding that alternating my swimming and running days to be helpful for a variety of reasons.

When I walk the dogs, my neighbors feel free to chat.

When I'm running, the neighbors leave me alone. There's not much time to talk when running, as I'm zipping along.
I expected you to follow through and enlighten us on that variety of reasons. I am disappointed. :wacky:

Is it being barefoot? I haven't gotten any comments yet. I used to get some in MI when I would so rarely run BF in a place where other humans might be, but nothing ever negative. And only a few reactions in my sandals.
Moreover, I don't recall people actively avoiding eye contact and greeting.

You should move to Iowa city, people are friendlier here :) , I have gotten nothing but possitive coments on my runs.
There is a trail that connects three cities so most people are used to my bareness:D just the other day while on the trail this guy say, "I recognised you" ( a complete stranger to me) "I said from where?" he said "oh just from running barefoot all over town". And last night this cyclist go "wow you're brave".
Anyways back to bussines.
I haven't posted lately cause I was having way to much fun up on the Minnessota Northwoods-in the cabins-by the lake-and haven't done much running. Well I have ran but not long runs.
So here we go.
Monday six miles on a hilly route at noontime.
Tuesday six miles at noon which four of them were hill repeats, follow by an evening run of eight miles.
Wednesday six miles tempo run.
So there you have it.

A most delightfull run under the pouring rain  :)

Great job!

Friday morning, 5km, first run in nearly two weeks due to the mystery side of leg stabbing pain thing. Bleurgh. Tuesday was pain free, so I played basketball on Wednesday night and got through the game with no worries. This morning I decided enough was enough and went for an easy run. Everything felt OK, maybe the slightest pin-prick sensation at the 3km mark, but I went with the old Jens Voigt "Shut Up Legs" and it went away. Feels OK now, so I'm going to think positive thoughts and be nice to my legs all day. Massage booked in for 7:30 tonight. Fingers crossed!

Oh, and it was lovely and sunny, but a little cold underfoot. Great to be back on the beach!
