I hit ten miles tonight. Started November 10, 2013, exactly one month after shoulder surgery. Doctor told me lifting weights were no longer in my future so find a new hobbies. Barefoot running sounded like a challenge so I took the plunge. Never thought I would ever get close to ten miles!

Paced 10:07 mins/miles. Not good but it is start.

I don't think I got any new blisters. I will know in the morning. There were some dry ones the skin is peeling from though.

Congratulations! I remember my first 10 miles. I thought I was going to hit it like 3 different times before I actually did, but there was just not something right about those particular days - though my body was ready, my mind was not quite there. I KNOW how awesome that feels! I remember when I was in high school, I had a friend who ran 10 miles EVERY day, and I remember thinking "I could NEVER run 10 miles!" Well, 23 years later...just goes to show you should NEVER say NEVER!

Take the mental plunge and run the half marathon distance, 13.2 miles....if you can do 10 you can do the half marathon distance, just mentally and emotionally commit with no allowance for failure.

They say hitting that first half marathon distance is one of the biggest thrills in sport, even over accomplishing a full marathon distance, cause once you hit the half marathon distance, you know in your heart you can accomplish any distance, and that its just a matter of time.

I ran 13.2 miles (all running, no walking albeit very slow running) weighing 260 pounds after two weeks back running, was all mental, so believe me when I say that you can do it.

You are so close at 10 miles, give yourself the gift of the 13.2 :)

You CAN DO IT!

Its your mind that accomplishes it, not your body :)

GREAT JOB Mo!!!

You're right, that's not good. That's awesome! With all the people out there who drive to their mailbox because they are so lazy, it doesn't matter how fast you run it (or even if you walk it) you moved for 10 miles, don't minimize it because of pace!
Good on ya mate!
I hope you celebrated with a few beers!
Cheers!

Wait until you can run 15 miles before you do 13.2

I am at my current physical limit. My left knee and hamstring were done. I also have a pelvic tilt that has made my quads very tight. To align my pelvis with my body it stretches my quads and they had all they could take.

Good news is the flexibility is coming so I think I will be past those issues soon.

Funny thing was I told my wife I was only running three miles and my wife freaked after I was gone an hour. She thought I might have been hit by a car and had to check find fiends on iphone and saw I was at least moving down the road.

Thanks for all the encouragement, it really helps.

I have all sorts of weird pelvic/hip twist issues. Check out yoga -especially Cat and/or Cow in particular.

My longest run was 10 miles when I did my fisrt and only half...maybe I should try for a second half and see how I do now that I have more running experience.
