Hey, it's Monday!

This morning - 10km around the streets at home. Cold (7C) and dark to start off. I was only planning on doing 6km, but I couldn't find any sort of mojo for the first 3 or 4km and I only really started enjoying it once I got going, so I decided to run a little further once the daylight arrived.

An old lady told me "You must have tough feet" to which I replied "I don't know, I can't feel them". It was the truth. I think I'm going to have to reconsider doing longer runs on rough surfaces in the dark when it is cold and wet underfoot - the last few runs have really taken a toll on my feet and today I'm limping around the office. I thought everything was going OK, but feeling returned with a vengeance in the shower and I'm now sporting some red skin on the ball of my foot below the second toe where most of the abrasion tends to happen. No blisters though, but it feels like I should have some. Oh well, live and learn.

Hi Larry, you mentioned running in the dark and sensitive feet...several times, both on the trails and on pavement I got caught out after dark (I'm a late afternoon/evening runner), and everytime I beat me feet up in the darkness...anybody else have this issue?

I am thinking of getting a head lamp to see if that helps, and carrying it with me for when I am out running after dark.

Hi Steve, in my case, I think it was the conditions contributing to the problem. It was dark, cold and wet in my case, and after taking a good look at my feet and how I've been walking since, I realised that I was running with my feet tensed up, almost scrunched up in anticipation of hitting an unfriendly surface.

So, the solution for me is to run with relaxed, spread feet instead of tiptoeing along. However, that's hard to do when you don't know what you're about to land on. I figure the best bet is to either limit your dark morning runs to surfaces you are sure of (in my case, the beach when the tide is out) or grab a lamp. Somebody recommended having one on your waist because they are more stable there, but I've never tried it.

4.6 miles in the nature preserve on Sunday.

7.02 miles yesterday, strangely slow.

7.21 miles this morning, 4 of the miles at tempo pace. I'm continuing to see steady improvement on these in duration and maintaining pace.

Can I play?? I got about an hour in last evening, maybe 7 miles or so. Started in the sunset and finished in the dark. I have a hat with a couple lights in the brim that illuminates the road decent enough to be sure not to step on all of the hypodermic needles laying around.
It's been hot and humid here in DE the last couple days, and that's my jam! I love running in the soupy humidity.

Was going to try to fit in a short run before all day driving in a car Monday, but felt very tired. Probably a combination of my highest mileage week ever, 41 miles (higher by 10 miles due to rearranging runs for travel schedule), being woken up every few minutes all night for 3 nights by the noisy in room air conditioning unit, an overall odd schedule due to visiting relatives, and the resultant altered eating. I pretty much slept off and on in the car until 2 PM. I was worthless to help with the driving, but I'm not usually able to drive too far anyway, so it did not impact our travel time much. Besides, when I did help, after all that sleeping, I drove off course for an hour while poor hubby napped. oops.

I think this will be a light week for me. Am on the spin bike now for 60 minutes. Will have to unpack a lot of things my giving MIL sent home with us and decide what to do with it all. It s supposed to be 100 degrees F here today, so I think it will be easy to get myself to swim some later, too!

First proper try at a run since IBRD. 2K in 14 mins. Not a lot slower than I was. Maybe that 30 minute 5K on Aug 9 is possible :)

I took Mon and Tues off...had a chaffing issue from running in the wrong underwear on Sunday (those damn thongs) :-/

Hehe

Am itching to run after two days off!

Yes, you definitely deserve to take a few days off.

Everyone else, c'mon maybe we can whittle down New York's lead! :D

What I want is to combine Pennsylvania and New York into the Pennsylyork Chapter so I can combine mileage with Chris.

5.39 recovery pace miles this morning. Little bit cooler, still quite humid, but much better running conditions today.

I'm sure we could do that, after all, there's nothing significant between those 2 states right? ;)
As of today I'm back on track and I had a very pleasant 5 mile run to work.

15.3km/9.5mi today, cold morning (about 7C/44F), but still nice and sunny. I am still having higher HR than usual, not sure why, I thought colder weather would help keep it down

Hi Spider...are you properly hydrated?

Tuesday, I did get in my swim, consisting of 5 + 20 + 5 minutes intervals.

Today, I ran 10 miles around my pond loop, all bare footed. Then, I cleaned the pool, which counts as an upper body work out. After that I carried 16 pound(adorable) granddaughter around for a couple of hours. 16 pounds can get heavy after a while, especially if it wants to play pull-me-to-stand-up-and-sit-down for a while. :) She is a small, but mighty 9 months now!

6 easy miles this morning. Little bit more difficult than I wanted, I'll blame it on working to help some people with tree cleanup yesterday after a bad line of thunderstorms had rolled through Tuesday evening. Did 6 hours of some fairly vigorous physical work. Then I also had a couple of beers last night and probably didn't drink enough water to get fully rehydrated.
