I live in Durham, North Carolina, and run about 1/2 on trails and 1/2 on roads. I've been doing most of this at a leisurely pace, my longest runs are currently 8-10 miles, but I am now doing a little more systematic training and plan to run a 1/2 marathon some time this fall.

Before I started running barefoot, I ran for fitness and hurt myself regularly. Since I started running barefoot, I've stopped hurting myself and started enjoying myself.

Welcome, Bootstrap!

Welcome, Bootstrap. At last count, your son Will was doing a great job running the Flying Dutchman.

Glad to have you with us. Your story sounds much like mine. I'm in Fuquay-Varina, but my middle son is a high school soccer team goalie, which occasionally brings us Durham way. Let me know if you'd like to meet up to run sometime.

Sure - let me know when you are in Durham.

Barefoot is the greatest! But you might get some other kinds of injuries as you go along. At least, I know I have, but usually much more manageable than shoe induced injuries. :barefoot:

I have been running barefoot for 3 years now, and I'm familiar with both kinds of injuries ;->

Full disclosure: I broke my foot on a sharp hidden stump a little over a year ago, and was out of the game for quite a while last year.

Ouch! I broke my left foot (3rd metatarsal) doing too much too soon in Vibrams when I first started. 10 weeks of healing, followed by another 8 weeks of recovering from compensating poorly during the healing process. But when shod, I would roll an ankle nastily about twice a year, putting me down for several weeks each time. I've had no other major running injuries since going to BF/VFFs. Plenty of minor annoyances, like digging occasional slivers of glass, wire or tiny gravel out of the soles, but no biggies. I've also stubbed or rolled over a toe a few times when I quit paying enough attention while BF. Only when I failed to follow the old Army maxim, "Stay alert, stay alive!"

Since I started running barefoot, I've stopped hurting myself and started enjoying myself.

I am so living this! Longest stretch EVER injury free -- not to mention FUN ! !

Welcome, Bootstrap! Cheers!
