Anybody doing Barefoot Speed Training

i had also meant to mention how you need stress to get your body stronger but knowing how much is enough and what is too much is tricky. err on less. it takes longer to recover from injury than to just play it safe.

I would say: It takes longer to recover from injury, than it does to be patient and persistent in developing and injury free running form.

Distance and intensity of effort has WAAAAY less to do with injury than bad mechanics, bad running form, and inadequate warmup.



As a side note, if you are worried about bone density, then your running form is off...if you are worried about not having tough enough skin for long runs on pavement, then your running form is off...the same is true of almost every other running associated injury. ;-)

Sorry Steve, you are going to think I am an A$$ for arguing some of your posts. For the sake of discussion, that does not exist. Even the pros, coaches, barefoot gurus will occasionally get injured, it just happens. Sure, being barefoot helps tremendously, but it is not the cure all.

No worries, and no thinking anyone is an àss over here....


Sure, everyone can get injured, and they do...I'm suggesting maintaining proper form at all times, even when tired, eliminates almost all running associated injuries...I'm not talking about barefoot running, I'm talking about proper form, which barefoot running certainly ASSISTS with a great deal.


I ran over 16 miles on pavement or similar surfaces this weekend, (6.57 miles Saturday and 10.3 miles today) all STG, an no injuries, no blisters, no bone bruises or sore feet...but I stayed aware of form in every step...landed softly, kept a 182 beat cadence, and of the 30,000 or so steps I took, maybe 30 of the times that I picked up my feet did they slide even a fraction of an inch on the pavement...which means no tender feet...each time I felt the tiniest abrasion on the concrete it was a reminder to lift the feet straight up and keep good form...each time I felt the slightest rattle in my bones it reminded me to land more gingerly, each time my calves got tight, it reminded me to keep up my cadence and stay loose...was fun.

Form breaks seems to be the principle cause of injury by far

Don't rush the search for speed Steve - enjoy the journey!

Long, slow runs will help you lose the excess quicker while giving you a chance to perfect your technique.

What he said! Technique is waaaaaaayyyyyy more important than speed or distance! I did the TMTS thing when I started out and paid dearly with achilies tendinitis! Cost me most of the summer! Good job on the weight loss! That too takes time. I lost 45 lbs about 3 years ago. My big thing is sugar! I cut out pretty much all of it except the real healthy kind they make rum out of!;)) Keep up the good work and enjoy the ride!!
