Mileage reporting 10th week 2014

I did 6 minutes on the treadmill after my workout. Felt the need to stop there actually. Something under the food felt weird.
This only doing minutes is very different from what I've otherwise done. But it's a good way to start slow I think. I like it. You can stop when you need to. It's not like that is somewhere out in the woods… :)

oh no! Yes, at least on a treadmill you can stop any time.
Hope it was just a glitch for today.

stiff neck! think I slept on it the wrong way. ouch. can't figure if swim would help or hurt. haven't gotten one of these in years.
I personally use heat and massage for any stiffness. I ditched my pillow last year, as I felt that it was misaligning my neck. I have less stiffness and more flexibility now, which helps with swimming.

There's an article in the Studies forum, Pillows Are Like Orthotics for Our Necks.

Short 3 mile at 5:00 am. 43 deg. f..
Wore vivobarefoot Evo II.

SU 3/2/2014
Run: 0
ST: Pull—Bottom (Deadlifts)
Notes: Did 285 (x 5 reps, 3 sets) for first time in a long while. Might be ready for 300 again. I wonder what my one-rep max would be. I’m staying away from one-rep maxes because the last time I did that my knee felt a little sore. So I’m trying to stay within the 3-5 rep range for my max weight.

M 3/3/2014
Run: 2 mi, run-commuting, shod.
ST: Push—Front (Bench press), good pump
Notes: Very sore butt from previous day’s deadlifts. -9F on morning run-commute

TU 3/4/2014
Run: 2 mi, run-commuting, shod.
ST: Pull--Mid-Back (Rows), good pump
Notes: 6F on morning run-commute . Shed a layer of clothing--socks, long underwear, one top layer, face mask, and changed from my thick deer skin mittens to my thin wool ones. I thought about trying to run barefoot, but there was a 1/2-to-1-inch coating of snow when I woke up.

W 3/5/2014
Run: 3.4 mi, all bare!
ST: Push—Bottom (squats), stayed at 175 and focused on form.
Notes: Ran bare 2.4 miles to UPS drop-off box at 14F, no windchill. I ran 3-4 blocks on mostly compacted snow getting out of my neighborhood, but once out I was able to run on mostly dry pavement, dodging a few semis along the way. First time running bare in the morning since the California trip in early January, I think.

TH 3/6/2014
Run: 8 miles, all bare
ST: 0
Notes: one-mile run-commute in am; 7 miles in fairgrounds in pm, 32F, 20F windchill. I had to warm up my feet twice in car due to slush and wind. Definitely felt windier than the official 20F windchill.

F 3/7/2014
Run: 4.1 miles, all bare
ST: Pull--Upper-Back; Push--Top
Notes: 3.1 one-mile run-commute in am 30F/26F windchill, one-mile run-commute home 34F.
Doubled up the cables and press workouts since I skipped the cables the day prior in order to run more in favorable afternoon temps. Worked Power Cleans back in, so now my st routine has been completely rehabilitated, and I'm doing all the main lifts again. Stayed light on shoulder presses, as my left shoulder is still a little sore, but went heavy on pull-downs. Can only do one bodyweight chin-up. Pathetic.

SA 3/8/2014
Run: One-mile icy run-commute, 16F/9F windchill. Later, will run 3.1-mi route home.
ST: 0, will do box jumps and other plyometrics later. I've been slack about that stuff this week.
Summary: Solid week of strength training, and my running fitness is starting to come back.
23.6 miles on the week, all but four of them bare!
It’s supposed to get up to 40 tomorrow, so I’ll try a longish barefoot out-n-back.

3.3 miles last evening and 8.4 this morning. I started off today's run with a hat, long-sleeve tech shirt over a tee shirt, 2 pairs of cheap thin gloves, shorts and Xeros. After 2 miles, I walked a bit and took off the tech shirt, hat and one layer of gloves. Felt glorious to run again in shorts and a short-sleeve shirt.

10 miles this morning at a gentle pace as I was way over-dressed in tights and a mid-weight top. Ran in my Samsons for, what I hope will be one of the last times in March, as I'm away on a week-long ski trip tomorrow, and I didn't want to risk my soles before that. I've only run 31 miles StG so far this year.

4 miles at a fairly simple pace. Starting my taper for next weekends 15k. Feeling really good and loving being back in my monos. I ordered a new pair of monos this morning with the pittards leather which will be nice for dry runs. My soles just don't do well with that mgt footbed when its dry out, at least when running.

17.5km/10.9mi with about 7km in light trail (sand, grass, sandstone).

I love running on sandstone, its a very tactile material, feels good under the feet, and there is plenty of that on our coast !

Getting closer to the half marathon distance without any issues.

I really think I will register for the May half marathon

Friday - swam 5, then a 25 minute interval. Was going to ride the spin bike, but a son came over to do yard work with me, then baby grandaughter showed up. At 9 PM, I decided it was not to be.

Saturday - 4 miles barefoot, then 60 minutes on spin bike. One week till my official sharp asphalt 10k!

Tapering from 4 to a 9.3 miler??? ;) Nick, Nick, Nick... You know, some people from our group -like Helen (who I don't think you have met)- are choosing to run the 5k, even though they signed up for the 15k. Even Mike, told me he was going to decide whether to run the 15k, based upon how his running was going. Just say'in... Cuz I'm secretly your mother. :D

Um, you have heard of tapering down the week before a race haven't you? To keep yourself fresh and injury free right? I'm hoping to PR by 10-20 minutes on this course. No need to hurt myself prior to the race. I am ready.

Well...if Mike decided to run it, at least you will have someone else who is apparently "high" -to run with.

yes, cuz i continuously push myself to injury.

Only during the summer. In the winter, you get bonus points. It's the Scandinavian influence we have here in Minnesota.

Butt seriously, I like the four-letter, monosyllabic symmetry of 'bare' versus 'shod.' Aren't you glad you asked? Or maybe I could go for 'barefoot' versus 'shodfoot.' I don't like 'barefoot' versus 'shod' though. Makes it seem like the latter, shorter term is the unmarked category (see Prague School Linguistics for a fuller explanation).

We're in full thaw now after a high in the 40s yesterday (windchills in the 30s). Shed another top layer on yesterday's 10-miler doing loops in the fairgrounds--no jacket, no mittens, no cap. But this morning's ice nearly did me in on my run-commute, and I had to step through a killer 4-inch-deep, 10-foot-long puddle. I think I saw Mary sweet mother of Jesus for a second. It was just around freezing. And lots of debris on some of the sidewalks.

Highs in the 30s and 40s this (11th) week (and apparently for the rest of the month), so most surfaces should be ice- and slush-free within another day or two, even in the morning, then I'm home-free and running care-free-bare again! Everyone seems to be smiling more. Good lord, it's been a long winter. Now it's time to start worrying about flooding . . .
