Mileage reporting 7th week 2014

We got whacked in NYC as well and the snow couldn't have come any wetter. Our maintenance crew were using a snow blower to clean the street yesterday and today - they would have been more successful using a pump! My running week was going great till Thursday morning - I'll try and get out tonight and then I hope to be back on XC skis tomorrow after a light frost and 3, or so, more inches of snow.

wednesday: between 3 and 4 miles on a that dismal square track, if you can believe it. Was torn between missing running and hating the elliptical but needing aerobic and taking off swim.
then, some weights
thursday: swim, about 1 hour, then 2 miles on the square track again, then a few weights. at least a good workout for the day. need lots to stay sane. Took another quick 20 min swim later in the evening while my kids were at practice.
friday: gym, 1 mile on the square track, then weights. Evening was maybe a half hearted 20 min swim.
I miss liking the outside.

O.K.: First 1/2 marathon for this year. Stonebridge 1/2 in McKinney TX.. Started at 7:40 am. 30 deg. f.. No wind, no ice, no snow.
Great run
Last run of the week for me. Total 26 miles.
Feet good
Les good
Love running barefoot!!

AWESOME 6 mile run today with over 100 note-worthy puddles -yes there was immense puddle jumping (even with disintegrating dog-doo)! I got drenched to the bone! Super windy, slanted rain -a tad bit of sleet! And Pandora's old-school rap track, was just icing on the cake! Did I mention it was AWESOME!?!

25 minute swimming Friday afternoon, then
almost 2 hours of dancing barefoot. Got to sing with my band, too, which went off splendidly even though I had been dancing intensely for over an hour up till then. Got lots of encouraging feedback after singing. :)

Meant to ride the spin bike today, but took a nap, learned to bend PVC pipe, and then got caught up in editing video (making it into a 12 minute movie with backgroung music) for a friend of ours. Can probably fit the biking in reasonably tomorrow.

My week in review:

Monday, day 5 of a 5-day golf safari which included a game at Royal Melbourne. Incredible. I played like crap and loved every minute.

Tuesday, 8 slow km, working out the kinks after 5 days of walking.

Wednesday, basketball.

Thursday, slept in, no time for running

Friday, 8km in the morning, forgot that my running club had its blue ribbon 'pub to pub' handicap race that evening. Remembered during the day, so I had a go. I actually felt good, which surprised me. The run is about 6.2km, mostly along the beach. I ran barefoot, and made a big deal of being able to cut through the shallow water to take a shorter line around the u-shaped beach, splashing through the waves that came in a little further while the shod runners were heading up the beach to keep their feet dry. I roughly paced a guy who passed me and tried to keep him in range, hoping that I might have a little bit left at the finish. As it turned out, he dragged me along at a very quick 4:30 km pace for me, and I was able to catch him and pass him Just before the brutal climb over the sand dunes to the finish. I managed to pull away to be clear in third place after the hill, but I couldn't catch the lady in second who was sprinting the last 500m. I was happy with third, and my time was very fast by my standards. I don't know if the morning run helped somehow, or if I'm just so lazy that I never run to my potential and I need a guy to push me to run fast. Probably the latter.

Sunday, back on the long run horse. 15km on the beach, trying to keep the pace slow and the effort to a minimum. Still trying to teach myself to run long by slowing down, and I think it is starting to work. The weather was cold and windy for summer, and I even copped a couple of showers. The highlight was watching an albatross eating some sort of shellfish on the shore, each time I got close, he would grab his breakfast and fly into the air, gliding 50m or so ahead to give himself time for a nibble or two before I caught up again.

This was my longest run, barefoot or shod, for over twenty years, so I'm feeling pretty good about that.

Ran 5.2 miles in shoes yesterday, thanks to road conditions. All I know from the 4 times that I've run in shoes since changing over to barefoot/minimalist is that it feels so wrong to run in shoes now, or at least in the old pairs of running shoes I had with thick soles, cushioning and thick heels. It feels like I don't get any spring out of my feet and calves even though I do my best to try to land midfoot. There's no spring to the stride at all.

Going to have to order a pair of those Sockwas when conditions are too much for the Xeros and toe socks.

I can't wait for this winter to go away. I looked outside yesterday at the huge piles of snow and just dreamed about being able to run on warm dirt and grass.

8km tonight with my wife...happy vday!

i've never measured sex by distance moved, only by time. ;)

f-weights and bf run
sat-walked dogs. sore from lifting :meh:
s-snowboarding :woot: sore from lifting :rage: so only 5 runs. used my forerunner. over 10miles of movement. hr shot up on some of those runs. was fun.
