The Boogie Races

Any race that has you sign a waiver that says

I realize June in North Carolina is hot and humid.* Most people and doctors advise against running in heat and humidity. Also, running at night presents special problems such as seeing where you are stepping and watching out for cars. I understand that this area has specific hazards such as rattlesnakes, copperheads, polecats, wildcats, and rednecks who like to drink and drive and throw things. I know that 50 miles is a long, long ways and many people get tired just driving that far. Nevertheless, I want, no, I insist I be allowed to do this event regardless of the risk. Therefore, I want everyone to know that I am not being forcedto do this event and that I agree for myself and any survivors or possible claimants that I may leave behind, to save, release, and keep harmless the Mangum Track Club, its members, the Runners From Hell, and any volunteers or sponsors or any other helpers that may be involved with this event, from all liability, claims, or demands for damages incurred by participation in thisevent or any of its parts. I assume all responsibilities for my participation in this event and certify that I am properly trained, mentally fit, and medically able to participate in this 50 mile run. I agree to use a light after dark. I certify that I am 18 yrs old or older. I will not litter. I will not kill snakes.
* Try 98 degrees at the 6pm start!

has got be cool? It is if you don't DNF like I did at mile 36 two years ago.

I am approaching training for this event differently then I did in 2010. There will be no March marathon for me this year, which means almost 3 months between races. I will have more time to build myself up to a longer run or two in May.

I agree, leave the snakes alone! They were there first! :troll:

Love it!

We had a massive monsoon-like rain start at around 9:45-10'ish. It was raining cats & dogs so bad that our headlamps reflected back at us, that we turned them off. Amongst the lightening strikes, I saw a few serpents slither across the road. I stepped on more than a frog or two.

And leave the frogs alone too! :sour:

That does sound like fun!

I actually got bit (twice) by a copperhead at a cross country meet back in high school. Apparently I gained some notoriety over it as now, 14 years later, I'm meeting people that I've never met before that remember me from it.

Where and when is this race?

Did you get bit twice by the same snake, Chaser? Or was it two different snakes. Ha!:pompus:

I see a reality running show in the future with Chaser as "The Snake Charmer". :photogenic:

Saturday, June 8th @ 6pm sharp! Ellerbe, NC is about 10 miles outside of Rockingham (as in former NASCAR track) or 1.5 hours south of Raleigh.

Either way would have been a good story. Hissss!
