I also wonder if distance is relevant. It seems to me if you can do 3-5 km, you can do how many more your conditioning will allow you. On my run on Friday I would've gone farther if I wasn't worried about my ITBS flaring up again.
Thanks Rick, I think I have it under control. Now I have to build back up slowly. The plan is do one-mile intervals down at the track for a while and stretch and massage after each interval, building up number of intervals, and then eventually stringing them together for a real run. The ITBS occurred after I followed up a longish run (for me) of 9.4 miles with a recovery run the next day. I don't know if I'll ever be a consecutive-day runner, but I know I'm not one now. BTW, your input in the old ITBS thread was helpful, along with the comments from many others. If nothing else, that thread helped put the fear of god in me to take this ITBS thing seriously.Good point Bare Lee. Conditioning makes a huge difference. Last year I was dealing with injuries and then had the frostbite setback. This year, no serious problems and after the first couple of uncomfortable k's, it's just a matter of how much I want to run that day. Hope you figure out that ITBS.
I'm new here, but I've already got one Winter Challenge barefoot hike under my belt. Went for a 5 mile hike last weekend just after the first snowfall. It was hovering around freezing, but the snow felt nice between my toes.
A weenie enters the rink!
4.25 in a blustery (oh, alright, for me) 37 degrees w/ a 5-10mph wind. My toes and part of the ball of my foot were numb for about 45 minutes afterwards but are now fine. Don't make fun of me, hard core people. I am proud to be logging in the winter challenge thread.

I don't run bf in the dark, even when it's warm. Maybe some day. So far, I've been trying to schedule runs later so that I can get a little warmth (sunlight not lately but cloudy daylight is better than dark of night)Welcome to the challenge scedastic. From the mileage tread, I have learned that you run extremely early. So in that case, I'm the weenie. I've got to run in the sunlight to be able to handle the cold.
