Today marks the beginning of increasing my most mileage in a single to a lifetime record every 2 weeks. This morning: 16 miles. I made the mistake of spending too much time in the sun yesterday afternoon (got a touch sunburned) and didn't eat a good dinner, because it was a rest day and I wasn't particularly hungry. It is my hypothesis that those things combined made the last 4 miles difficult, but it was still a good run and my overall average pace better than my 15 mile run a week ago, even though the paces were kind of flipped as I slowed down (let myself relax as my body seemed to need it) for the last 4 or so miles. It was pretty warm, too. I stopped to refill my lemonade from a stash in the car at mile 13 and it was still cold! So refreshing!

Running in NYC has been a delight for the last week or more with low humidity and temperatures only up to about 27C so 11.5 miles came very easily yesterday afternoon and todays 5 + 7 commute was fun too!
I hope the high humidity we normally get stays away for a long time this summer!

9km yesterday morning. Strange morning - my phone said it was 14C out at 6:30AM, but the maximum temperature was going to be 14 for the day. Go figure. It was dark on the beach, but the tide was coming in and there were a few patches of soft sand bogging me down, so I decided to take to the streets and ran a random loop around my neighbourhood. Today is a day off, mainly because it is my daughter's 5th birthday and I haven't bought her any presents yet. :)

Treadmill backward walking, weights, floor stuff, yoga, roman chair, and lots and lots of rolling. I tried to fail my pull-downs at 15 lbs, but I decided to stop at 100. I failed at failure, lol. I succeeded at dips, at 13, and chin-ups/ narrow at 12, chin-ups/wide, at 4, assistance at 160 for all three.

A hard 5 mile trail run, up the mountain and back down...was cool cause some hikers said they saw two more barefoot runners out there, a man and a woman, I'm sure it was the couple I saw a few weeks ago that asked me lots of questions about going full barefoot...hope to see them out there this week!

I also went to an open air mall today and just decided to not wear any shoes...got some strange reactions lol...I felt very Zen though :)

My feet are changing shape or something, and don't fit well into those narrow toe boxes any more.

I didn't do my 10 miler yesterday, too achy and painy...was today too but decided to run through it...feel like every joint in my body is creaky and old for the last couple of days.

I'm sure its because of diet...I ate a lot of processed foods this weekend, and I think its causing a lot of general inflammation in my body. I feel yucky but decided to soldier on and run through it.

I stopped at the market and bought a bunch of fruit, and will go back to eating only living unprocessed fruits and some yogurts and honey...with a couple of organic soy protein shakes thrown in.

My energy level is low and my body feels like I'm pretty beaten up...better food is a must...no more eating chemically altered poison food for a long long time.

Let's see. Ran 4.6 miles trail/x-country on Sunday to round up last week with 48 miles, with about 31 of those being barefoot. I had gotten kinda lazy about staying in the Xeros while running, but am now working on trying to make sure at least half my miles are barefoot.

Ran 7.2 yesterday, 4.1 of those were barefoot. Part of my route ducked into a housing development and that was some uncomfortable chipseal, with plenty of tiny sharp pebbles too. But me and my feet survived it and then was happy to get back onto the still chipseal but smoother chipseal of the township roads.

Today's Tuesday so it's the hard running day of the week. This week's poison was hill repeats. After a good 24 minute warmup, I did 8 of the suckers, with the last one being the fastest and hardest of them all. Felt a tiny bit slow on them, as in it was like I couldn't quite reach the gear that I wanted, and the heart rate levels corresponded with that impression. It still was a quality workout, and I ran a total of 5.7 miles overall.

Today's miles were enough to have me cross the 1,000 mile mark of running barefoot or in Xeros. It's also the first time I've ever run more than 1,000 miles during any period of 12 months, even though I still have about 1 month and 10 days til I reach my barefoot/minimalist running start anniversary. The feet have changed, grown and developed a lot over the last year.

Great Job Scratch!

You da Man :)

Today is my hard day too...but I run in the evenings typically.

Rode the spin bike 60 minutes in the AM while discussing concepts of political freedom with youngest.
During lunch, swam a very relaxed 10 + 20 minutes in the pool, sans mirror for the first time and discovered having it there may have been contributing to motion sickness.

Side note: We will be in Livermore, CA over the weekend of July 4th, probably going for a long run on Saturday the 5th. Any of you live near there?

Today marks the beginning of increasing my most mileage in a single to a lifetime record every 2 weeks. This morning: 16 miles...

Nice! And nice coincidence too... Haven't been on the mileage reporting threads much this year but decided to check in. Monday Yvonne (from the winter challenge thread) and I got our longest run in this year so far... 16 miles :) plus a little over another half mile cool down walk after. And it was hot in the upper 80's. Was also her longest run ever and she handled it great!

5 miles up and down that mountain.

That Mountain kicked my àss today big time...

Is that the 3500' elevation you were mentioning in another thread? If so that seems like a lot (well in 2.5 miles!). Reviewing the stats on my last trip to the mountains... thats almost what I'd hike in the better part of a day, elevation wise. And I'd spread that out over many more miles. In my mind that seems way to steep to be able to run, but maybe I'm just remembering the more steep sections. I did a lot of hands and knees and rock scrambling, even cables and ladders in spots. But that was a very rugged trail. Perhaps if the trail was more smooth the elevation wouldnt come in sudden increases and more gradual...

5.75 miles today, 3.6 were barefoot. Total recovery pace after yesterday's hard running and the fact that we're back to sauna conditions around here again today.

2 miles or so early in the morning, and another 3 miles of small hilly type run mid afternoon. Love doing split runs, don't have to many oppertunities to do so though. I was off for my youngest graduation celebration so I was able to do my 2 run day. I find it's a easy way to build milage, and I also find myself running a little faster this way as well.

Hi Tristan,

THe run that has around 3500 feet of climbing is the 10.2 mile run out there.

The 5 mile run I do has about 1650 feet of climbing...the steepest bit is the last half mile on the outbound leg, it fluctuates between 32 and 40 degrees of incline, and about 2/3rds of the climbing is in that last half mile.

The reason it kicked my keester so much yesterday was largely because they had taken a Bobcat on tracks back there to open up the trail a bit, which turned up millions of sharp little rocks...going up was a bit rough, but coming down was torturous. Unavoidable sharp rocks are rough when the trail is already steep enough in places to be hard to keep your footing on the descent.

I got enough bruises on my feet that I actually went out and bought some shoes today.

Its a tough climb already, but the mental drain of the sharp rocks made for a fun but challenging run.

Can't find any good pics online of that section of the trail...but it looks kinda like this but much longer and without the zigzags:

sunday: about 3 walking/running in am, then about 3-4 with thousands of personal trainers (biting flies) keeping my speed higher than normal. A little bit of kicking. Shoulder healing, but slowly. I'm now thinking I pulled it tossing my 9yr old son around and wrestling with him.
Monday: gym workout, staying away from shoulders
Tuesday: gym workout, Aaaaaahgain. Also tweaked tendons in my legs from too much racquetball too soon last week, so now I gotta lay off that too for a bit.
Oh, also got hit by a van. No kidding. Sunday. Car drifted into the ditch on the country road. Leaped out of the way just in time, but my back caught her mirror. She said "don't worry about the mirror." Sigh. Saw my little life flash before my eyes and all that. Another second, and deciding who on earth would raise my kids. Ugh.

Wed: 2 short hikes, in minimal shoes (forgot my sandals), about 3/4 mile bf on gorgeous sidewalk, some gym stuff, weights. Shoulder and back feeling much much better considering, but now fighting off some summer virus my son gave me.
