What races do you have coming up or are you planning on doing?

I have been planning out some races for this year and next for myself and thought maybe it would be cool to see what everyones got coming up or any races that you were hoping to be able to do in the future.

For me personally, I've made the decision I don't want to do many road races and would prefer to stick to trail races. I like the small fields and being out in nature and the cheaper entry fees (for the most part). Much more calming for me. The end of this month I have the Rugged Maniac 5k obstacle course run and I had been planning on a 10k trail race I've done in the past but it looks like they are not doing it this year for some reason. I am also hoping to do the Alsea Falls trail 20k in August if the work schedule permits. Next year there are several races I want to do. I would like to do the Shamrock 15k again despite it being a road race and then I might do the Autumn Leaves 50k, Marys Peak 50k (I've seen this dubbed Oregons most challenging 50k), and the Trail Factor 50k. That's all I got for now.

What's your race plans?

Doing a leg for a marathon relay team from work, and a 5k fund raiser for our local spca. Other than these 2 nothing, taking it easy this year. I'm finding that the increasing cost of races is making me think twice about entering. Every time I registered for a race than 2 or 3 of my kids were hinting that they would like to enter too if dad were to pay. Adds up quick that way. :)

I'm racing the fat. Otherwise, Ragnar relay is all that's on my schedule running wise. Will likely do Silver Falls trail half in November, if I get in. I have a 50 mile mountain bike race in August taking a lot of my training hours right now.

Have never run an organized race. Am shopping for a fun 10k in weeks. Enjoying 5mi several times/week "funning!" (Thank you Ken Bob -- love the term!)

(BTW, am fascinated by ZapMamaK's blog about training for her 100 at The Ranch; strength and power training about an hour/day, no long runs! So intriguing. Enables dreaming of doing a half and full "down the road" with this, if I may avoid stops-from-injuries from LRs. Sante.)

Hey Nick, thanks. I ran/hiked 50 miles on a very rocky course Sunday and I used the NB MT110 for the first 30 miles and then the Altra Lone Peak for the last 20. I think that was a good combination. The NB I have in a wide size and really like it. Unfortunately, the new ones coming out are 2 oz. heavier so the never ending shoe search continues. I don't like running in the Lone Peaks, but when the feet get sore from the miles and the conditions are rocky downhill, they work well, or if it is mostly hiking conditions. My friend, the RD of Ultra Adventures who has ran the Bear twice, is trying to get me to try the Altra Olympus and insists that will help me get through the course. I just don't know if I can go with that big of a shoe as I will surely get shunned from here (right, Janson;)?).

Holy maximalist! That Olympus shoe has a massive stack height! Not to mention how heavy it is. Not sure I would like that. I had been looking at the Superior, but it looks like it must be discontinued or something. Maybe I will look into those nb mt110 if you say that they are available in wides they might just work. I love running in sandals, but sandals in mud sucks so I gotta figure something out. I never knew Janson was shunned... I liked Janson the time I met him. I want to go do one of the races he recommended out his way one of these days.

No, I'm just kidding about Janson. I saw he had the Olympus on in one of his reports and was going to give him some heat, but that would be the pot calling the kettle black.

If you are willing to gamble, 6pm.com has the NB shoes on sale often. Just make sure you get them wide and half a size up. They work great in the mud.

Ah ok. Lol! I will keep that in mind for the shoes Rick. Thanks I really appreciate it. I can't afford anything right at the moment but hopefully in the near future.

And yet another thread gets turned into a damn darn shoe hijack. :)

Yeah, don't rush into any shoes, you have all those kids feet you have to shod. Good luck to you Nick. Congrats on your recent running successes and weight loss. Glad things are going well for you.

Thanks Rick. My wife will tell you, I really don't rush into shoes without reading a lot of reviews and trying many different pairs on. :) She always tells me to sh*t or get of the pot! Lol! She's very impulsive and I am very meticulous. We compliment each other pretty well that way. I am also pretty good at hijacking posts. I just made you an unwitting accomplice this time. :)

Oh, have you looked at the NB Minimus Zero Trail V2? I may have to check that one out. It looks like it's a similar last to a shoe I like, only slightly narrower, so if I were to get the wide version it may work.

Got a half-marathon on June 1st. Hoping to win it.

All the Minimus seem to have that strap or reinforcement across the top of the foot so I haven't been interested in purchasing. Also, that light of a trail shoe doesn't really fill a need for me. The range of mileage I would use that shoe would be the same range as sandals.

Maybe it is time to start an updated trail shoe options thread? See what others are trying.
