Mileage reporting 11th week 2014

Took an exploratory run out onto some trails and confirmed that it's mud season out there. So it was very slow-paced, had to walk some of it and a few places scramble over some trees that came down during the winter. But it felt good to get off the roads some and run barefoot. Still, can't wait til mud season dries up and we have a steady string of warm days. But then, maybe it's not ideal out there, but it's a hella lot better than a month ago.

^^^^ wth?? mud is the best! it's a great "core" workout to keep on your feet.

m-weights. last day of week to rest some for sunday's "race"
t-faster run in sandals. got a little tired at the end of the 4m. i think i started too fast.
w-easy run to shake out the legs.
th-easyish trail run.
f-napping during 2 classes and work.
sat-walk the dogs and work
s-should be race day. if it rains or i get warm enough, bf. if not, sandals. :(

Well, it's less than 2 hours from start of 15k. Sure hope I'm as ready as I believe I am. Had a bad nights sleep. Was up from 2-4am due to our bedroom being so blasted hot (and I'm a minimalist pillow sleeper and minimalist sheet sleeper!). I hate only having one control in the whole house for temp. Our condo had controls for each major room, so it's kind of a major change that is hard to get used to. Anyhow, looks like race will be rainy at low to mid 50's.

TU 3/11/2014
ST: Bench Press, good pump. Worked pull-overs back into the routine. Left shoulder seems fine with them.
W 3/12/2014
Run: 4.1 mi., one mile in the morning at 23F/4F windchill. Yikes! 3.1 miles in the afternoon, 25F, no wind, much better. The middle three toe calluses on each foot molted in the evening. My kids were fascinated as I pulled off the dead skin.
ST: Rows. Everyday lifting and running continues to go well. I think I got the ST distributed well enough now that the areas worked have sufficient time to recover. I love feeling slightly sore every day.
TH 3/13/2014
Run: 7 miles, 6.53 mi in the morning at 22F/12F windchill, put on the Sockwa G4s and walked the last half-mile. My toes felt vulnerable without their calluses. 46F/41F windchill during afternoon run-commute home.
ST: Squats. I put Scratch’s idea of using sawhorses as a safety net into practice. Even though I didn’t need them, they gave me confidence to go back up to 225 x 2reps, and confidence is often the difference between success and failure with these heavy, low rep lifts. I practiced offloading onto the sawhorses with an empty bar, and they’re only a few inches below the bar at the nadir of the movement, so they’ll work fine if I fail and need to bail.
F 3/14/2014
Run: 4.1 mi., 37F/31F windchill in the morning with lots of thin ice covering sections of the road after yesterday’s thaw. 37F/27F on afternoon run-commute.
ST: Zilch, stuff came up.
SA 3/15/2014
Run: Noon 4 miles in the fairgrounds, 23F/21F windchill. Surfaces were nice and dry.
ST: Zilch, massive family spring cleaning instead, then icy puddle workout with toddling son before stepping out with the missus. The ST week was going so well too, but I ended on a two-day fizzle. Will try to make up for it next week.

39.2 miles on the week, all bare baby.

did my race bf. painted my face and toenails then took off my shirt i got so hot. should've lubed up because i have some huge welts on my thunder thighs. ouch. calves are sore. i'm pretty sure i ran more from them than my hips. oh well. my time was around 1:40 for 9 miles. not sure as no more watch and didn't see my start time. had some fun though and saw Todd who also ran bf. Nick ran off before i could show him my welts. every time i ran by a camera i blocked my face. no more free pics for them. they can pay my race entry if they want my pic. i was good and only drank one beer. gotta study for finals.

15k today and I think I pr'd by somewhere close to 15'ish minutes, still waiting for offical results to be posted. Like Mike said it was really warm and humid and every couple miles I was shedding layers. If I didn't have to fight my laces on my sandals as much as I did and I didn't have to shed so many layers of clothes I may have PR'd by 20+ minutes.

So that jog down that muddy hill came back to bite me in the butt -literally. I am only doing yoga now. Though I have not sustained an acute "running injury" - my body imbalances have reverted to my pre-running days, and for all intents and purposes -acts like an injury. I have decided that it is in my best interest to consider myself an injured runner -as that is the only way I can obtain the patience and motivation to start over and build my muscles back up safely, correctly and as pain-free as possible. Now for the psychological struggle. I watch injured and rehabbing, runners, continue to run, when they know they shouldn't and pushing themselves too hard, when they know they shouldn't, and over-training/under-training...blah, blah, blah. Well for the past 3 weeks, I have been doing the same. I am not going to continue disrespecting my body because of my own unrealistic expectations of it and because of my own ego. I'm just not going to be "that runner" anymore. It's time to start over -the RIGHT WAY.

with Nick's help i found my results. 1:31:25. 9:49 pace. a bit faster than i thought. no wonder i have giant welts on my thighs.

Good job! I bet that ST you have been doing really helped. How did your exertion rate feel?

12.5 mile run at5:15 am 55 deg. f.. 2nd half of run very windy.
ran by a hawk probably dining on some breakfast.
last run of the week for me.
total 27.5 miles

thursday: nothing. at all. not even a walk. Time short. I think it's the first full day off exercise in awhile. Ihope.
friday: morning: ~1hr at the gym: 20 min elliptical, the rest weights and sit ups.
evening: swim, ~45 min

saturday: 4 mi, socks and sandals finally, since it was warm AND dry
some weights, sit ups, and eventually ~45 min swim

Have missed all of this week's reports !!! Dang !

I was in Brisbane, and had not much options for running, as I was in the city

-Tuesday 7.4km/4.6mi in a park (3 loops of boring park path
-Friday 7.5km/4.7mi in the same park, but did only one loop of the same park and found a bridge to another park, which was a bit longer and more interesting
-Sunday 10.5km/6.6mi trail race in Manly Dam with Kali, murls and George Carter. Sent a report to TJ, should be on the front page soon
