Mileage reporting 11th week 2014

Ok so what are you studying now?
Oh ya! Duh! Well, I would really like to do the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, but with a family (family is extremely important to me) I don't know if I could do that without giving up all my sleep. Really still debating on that one though because that is what I've wanted to do for a long time. There is another program for radiology that I would like to do an that will be less time intensive for school. Not the insane amounts of credits per term. That is probably the program I leaning towards, but only because of the workload.

I am glad you are doing something healing-oriented. Definitely much more YOU!

I hear ya. It's very hard with a family. Also, putting together the kind of resume you need to stand out for the job you want (extracurricular, publications, unpaid internships, etc) is nearly impossible with kids and a balanced life. It's for the young and people who don't need $ for a while.
I wish I had been a lot more practical and realistic when I returned to school.
Follow what you like, but be practical. Investigate your realistic job prospects.
Glad you're back running, too!
How's your baby?

Thanks Sced and good advice. Baby girl is fat and sassy! She is definitely a lot more vocal than our son and takes after her mother with the attitude. Hard to believe next week she will be six months old already.

HIJACK ALERT.

I regret getting my BA in Communications, way back in the day. Apparently, educational regret is a pre-requisite for a lot of people, for finally getting it right the second time around. At least 50% of my friends have picked a completely different course of education their second time around. When you're young, you don't realize that you have more than one interest and are good at more than one thing, so of course it never dawns on you that you should pick a course of education that you not only enjoy, but that is also going to be feasible with regard to cost-benefit ratios. And of course, you are also under the illusion that life will turn out exactly as planned. I have only known one person to come close to that!

Nice 5 mile run today at 4:30 am. 43 deg. f...
New path

Ran 6 miles Monday night when in Des Moines, IA for work at Gray lake and on into the downtown area along the river. Was a nice run but LOTS of people. Received many strange looks at my bare feet but not one word was spoken to me about it. Feet were sore after that run as the surface was quite a bit more rough than the surfaces I've ran so far this spring. Had a couple blood blisters too. It was still worth it!

Ran 6.25 miles last night on the local trails here at home. Feet must not have fully recovered from the run Monday as the palm of my left foot is sore. Quite sore actually probably to sore to run today. :(

Wednesday - good swim
Thursday - easy 3 mile run in the sunshine, during which there was some dancing on the pavement in front of strangers going by. My daughter, who was taking a video for me, said they didn't even blink. I must look like the sort of person they would expect to see dancing for some reason, even though I have never seen anyone else out there dancing on the path! :D

One hour run on local roads plus 30 mins warmup/cooldown walking. Nice day hi 50'sF windy with warm pavement. Replaced the battery in my Garmin 305 this week, tested it out today...worked fine...I'll start wearing it sometimes to do some spot checks on aerobic fitness.

1.02 mile run today in my new monos with the pittards leather footbed. Was a crappy run. Seemed really difficult. Assuming it must be the new monos and I need to get them broken in. Guess I'll wear my old monos with injinji's for Sundays 15k race. No need to change anything up I guess. Hope I got the bad run out of the way and this isn't really a sign of things to come........

I had Friday off work, so I planned on doing 10k in the morning and it kinda snowballed. Started out on the beach, but on the way back the tide was coming in and I had to take to the streets to avoid getting bogged. Then I decided to run past a mate's holiday house to see if he was in this week, and then I started thinking about running 'just a little bit further' - and ended up running around a few streets I normally don't run to have a look around. Finished on 16.5km - 0.5km longer than my previous longest BF run. I keep pushing the mark out by 0.5km, partly because I'm conservative, and partly because it's always a good feeling to beat your record, and beating it by a little bit each time means you'll be able to do it more often.

This morning I'm staying in my ancestral home of Ballarat, so I went out to run a lap of the lake, which is where everybody in Ballarat runs. It's not particularly barefoot friendly, but there is nostalgia and cameraderie, and always a chance that I will run into somebody I know from my youth. I don't often get many comments there, but today I heard a few. I ran past a couple of runner types who looked like they had just finished their lap and one of them said "Barefoot - a real runner" with a smile. Later on I passed a chick who was moving along quite well and said hi on the way past, and she said "Oh, and you're barefoot!". I laughed and pointed out that it had taken me ages to pass her and she was doing it pretty easy. I did the 6km lap in 27:55, which strangely is exactly the same time I did it in a few months ago when I was down here.

1 hour of hiking up a pretty steep hill and "jogging" down it. My muscle fibers are now no longer under the influence of side-effects of medications. Not surprisingly my muscoloskeletal imbalances are very pronounced now -basically my entire pelvic/sacral area is super loose -especially on my left -which is what happens when I am not able to trail run regularly. I am looking forward to a couple of months of various muscle rehab/therapy including my favorite -prolotherapy- to tighten up all my re-loosened ligaments -with naturally occuring substances such as saline or dextrose. That particular therapy is THE reason I was ever able to run at all. At least this time around,it won't take as many appointments cuz I know exactly what needs injecting cuz I'm more familiar with the anatomy. Gluteus minimus, obturator externusAND internus, Si joint, piriformis, latissimus dorsi at the bottom, some psoas on the side, injections coming down the pike.
