I am so enjoying this book about two sisters who hiked a good portion of the AT barefoot. I've only read 75 pages but like reading, "I marveled at how quickly I had become accustomed to walking barefoot with a pack. My feet wrapped themselves around roots and rocks, and I easily shifted my balance to avoid sharp edges. New ridges of muscle had grown above my arches, and all the surfaces of my feet felt alive and aware." And, "My feet curled around the edges of stones, forming themselves to the sheer surfaces, gripping the rock better than any pair of boots." Nice!

Yes, very nice.

You are not turning into a mokey aren't you.:D
Yeah, it always amazes me how quickly your body/foot reacts to un-eveness.

Last month I took 20 Boy Scouts and 4 leaders on a 20 mile hike in the George Washington National Forest. It rained every night, plus we did 20 stream crossings on the last day. My bare feet took it all in stride, while the others had to be more careful of their footing, and dry out their shoes at night . Before the hike I was told that it'd be foolish of me to attempt it BF. But now my fellow leaders are eating crow.

Crow doesn't taste too good, does it? :egg on face:

Wait, so what is the book called? I just searched "Southbound" in my library catalog and couldn't find it.

Maybe this is what I should do, just go hike a trail for a year and be away from people....

I was wondering too and I think this is it. I found it in the iTunes Books Store.

Title: The Barefoot Sisters: Southbound
Author: Lucy Letcher, Susan Letcher
Publisher: Stackpole Books

For some reason it doesn't say an ISBN number on the Book store app.

I heard a podcast interview with Isis and Jackrabbit. I think there is a link to it on the Barefoot Hikers of PA site. I'll check.

And here they are:

Ohhh, thanks. So it's like only an ebook?

No I didn't mean to imply that it's not a regular book, that's just the first place I searched (because we use Mac at my job). I guess the reason I don't see the ISBN is because Apple is too fancy-pants to put an ISBN number on their book store. :pompus:

Oh I was able to find it on Amazon. Here is the link to the real paperback book.

So much for moving out into the wilderness and just being by yourself!
