tomorrow is marathon day...

Tomorrow I'll be getting up nice and early to run a marathon. The first Kalamazoo Marathon, my first marathon, and I will be running it barefoot. In my drop bag (my wife will be wroking the 12 mile aid station) I have a pair of cusioned shoes as an emergency 'chute to get me across the finish line if necessary, but I think there is a 99.9% chance they will simply be along for the ride.

I still haven't decided if I will bring my VFFs or Trail Gloves as my "belt weights" (I think I run better in the VFFs but hte TGs are easier to put on mid-run), but one or the other will be along as my "backup feet" in case of rough terrain (I don't foresee any, but luck favors the prepared). I have a feelign this will be an "as I'm heading out the door" decision, although I am leaning towards the VFFs for now since I think I run better in them.

In case anyone wants to, I have signed up for my progress to be tracked and posted to my facebook account. there are mats at 6, 13 and 20 miles along the course and as I cross them it will be posted. I also have nike+GPS with me, so if anyone wants to shoot me a "like" I will get some cheers along the way. From the sounds of things there will be plenty of cheering, but another one never hurts. my facebook is: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=689418148

I can't thank you all enough for your advice and inspiration, and I think it will all pay off.

thanks! yeah that's some BG there. ;)

I decided to bring the VFFs since they alter my gait less than the trail gloves (I tend to overstride a little bit in the trail gloves... maybe they are too similar to a normal shoe?).

I had a breakfast of deep dish pizza and a bottle of pomegranate juice, have puttered around the house and even taken a shower (not that it'll matter in a couple hours). I leave for the race in about 30-45 minutes.

My fuel is hershey's special dark chocolate chips and craisins (the package says infused with cherry juice), along with plain ole H2O.

I'll probably be starting with the 5:30:00 pace group, but will be "running my own race" as my trainign pace group leader put it, so I may be speeding up and slowing down at different points on the course. I would like to finish by 4:59:59, but that's not the most important part of the day. I'm just looking forward to a nice long run through my town with some (finally) nice weather (we trained in snowstorms and temperatures below 0F).
